Areas Covered:

  • Understanding UK legislation & standards and how these apply to residential and commercial sprinkler systems.
  • Understanding regulations covering building undertaker, water and electrical suppliers and how to conduct research and keep up to date with developments and improvements within the residential fire sprinkler industry.
  • Understand the theory required for commissioning, handover, servicing, and maintaining residential fire sprinkler systems.
  • Identifying the required equipment for CHSM.
  • Understand the process and protocols required for CHSM. Including resolution of issues.
  • Completion of documentation required for CHSM, including checking compliance with building control regulations and the designs.

Total Course cost is £515 per candidate.

 

 

The Course

This level 3 Award in Commissioning, Handover, Servicing & Maintaining Fire Sprinkler Systems – Residential and Domestic, (CHSM) course covers all areas of UK legislation and best practice for supervisor level activities of commissioning, handover, servicing and maintenance of residential and domestic fire sprinkler systems.

This course will compliment your current understanding and knowledge that you use in your daily activities – ensuring that supervisors can all work to the latest level of understanding.

PLEASE NOTE. This course has been developed by the RSA to training those currently working within the industry, It is not suitable for anyone new to, or not already working in the Fire Sprinkler industry.

Who Is It Aimed At?

This qualification is a supervisor level course. It has been designed on the basis that candidates must be working in the role of a supervisor in the fire sprinkler industry, looking for a qualification to confirm their knowledge and understanding of UK legislation and best working practice.

This qualification is accepted by JIB as demonstration of proficiency in Supervisor level activities for part of your application for the Fire Sprinkler Supervisor Card, (JIB Gold Card) 

Typical Duration

  • One day virtual classroom.
  • Remote virtual learning modules completed through Vault platform.
  • Portfolio based evidence will be submitted by the learner. Photos / Videos/ Testimonies
  • 12- 16 weeks to complete coursework (Max 1 year – in exceptional circumstances)

Course cost is £515 per candidate.

Secured with £100 deposit – balance due 2 weeks before course date.

Prerequisites

  • Must hold valid CSCS card and be over 18 years old.
  • Must be able to demonstrate that they are working as a supervisor in the residential fire sprinkler installation industry. Signed statement from your Workplace mentor will be required to support this.
  • Either a relevant industry qualification (see SPEC SHEET for details for list of courses, attached at top of page) or evidence of prior learning which is equivalent to the qualification. If using prior learning for entry, a short Teams interview may be required to check suitability of this course.
  • Agreement of Workplace Mentor to act as witness verifying all aspects of the onsite work you submit online and to complete a Witness statement.

How It Works

One day of virtual classroom conducted over Teams – course is run typically with between 8-12 candidates.

Work submitted via the online platform Vault. Candidates will be assigned an experienced industry tutor to assess learning.

Practical support will come from your Workplace mentor.

Onsite workplace evidence will be submitted via an online portal, consisting of videos, photographs. As a demonstration of knowledge, suppling practical evidence as a key requirement of this course, so access to work sites will be required. All video evidence must be completed by yourself and verified by your workplace mentor.

Certification

Once course is successfully completed the candidate will have a SFJ Awards Lv3 Award in Commissioning, Handover, Servicing and Maintaining Sprinkler Systems- Residential and Domestic pathway.
